We were deceived We swore allegiance to the other side We silenced our voice Sentenced our freedom to conform, to behave, to comply We chose the distorted game of life designed to divide and fool Resigned to play by their cold-blooded rules We chose ignorance for we wanted to believe they truly cared So we traded in our souls and they tightened the chains A dark transaction fuelled by darker gains We were obedient to a disturbed reality Where instant distractions became our favourite addictions We were taught to sway within their rites and their wrongs To the hollow beat of their Machiavellian song To an untimely rhythm upon their centre stage And we fell for the sugar-coated lies, gift-wrapped illusions, words tied We were taught to smother our dreams and make a mockery of our passions for they don’t pay their bills That servitude, capitalism and excess was the civilised road to progress That success is based on the balance of our bank accounts not the balance within our lives Yes we became smart, smarter, taking pride in intellectual contortions Clever enough to create prisons and hide disorder within our own minds But not wise enough to behold the wealth of the wisdom within our hearts Our minds terrorised Our tastes formed Our ears convinced Our choices engineered Our eyes blinded to hide the truth staring right at us So now what? We awaken We remove the clouds of confusion, the debris of deceit and fear from our very own eyes Disentangle from a web of lies Discard the burden of their ill-fitting uniformity Remove our consent to the old world order For the masquerade is over For we were taught but now we have learned That the only way out is from within That for the world around us to change we must first expose our own demons Tear down our delusions Ask ourselves the uncomfortable questions Embrace an honest reflection of ourselves For we have also learned that the only truth is beyond the labels that divide us That together, beyond borders and breed beyond colour and creed we can piece back humanity with our resilience and our grace Choose to deny all fear and refuse all hate So step out of the night and into the awakening of the globe For the darkest moments birth the greatest promise Rouse this life force within Come as you are, whole as we are, As one consciousness As one light In the name of life and in the name of love For our time has come To stand unified and to rise as One |
